Mommy... I mean Ms. Robin... I mean Mrs. ******

As some know before I was a Mom I was a Teacher.  I use to teach 1st grade, before moving to where we now live. I then became a substitute teacher because the district just wasn't hiring.  Well now that my son is in Kindergarten, we've decided that I'll go back to work part time.  Why not but we just didn't know what I would do that would work around the kids busy and I mean busy schedule...

So last year I inquired with the principal of the kids school if they needed substitute teachers.  I had heard from some of the teachers that they just didn't have many and they couldn't go to workshops or such because of that. So I saw a potential opportunity.  So I asked and I got a 'Oh yes we'd love it if you could, we need subs'.  So I waited to get an application since it was too early for me to start (Monkey was only in 1/2 day preschool, only 3 days a week).  Word had started to spread that I wanted to sub and some teachers even asked if I'd start now.  I had to turn them down which they totally understood.

I did turn in the application and waited and waited and waited. I hadn't heard from the principal and so I began to think that door had closed which I was fine with I would just volunteer at the kids school no big deal.  But then I heard I was on the sub list? I hadn't heard anything so I inquired.  Sure enough they put me on the sub list and one day Wiggles came home with a fat envelope with more paperwork to fill out.  I even had one teacher call asking me to sub but since I had not gotten any paperwork filled out I said no.  So with in matter of 1 week I had gotten all the paperwork filled out doctor's appts done and fingerprints completed and I was ready to go.

My first job was to fill in as an aide for one week.  But then I got a call on Saturday saying I needed to fill in for 4th grade for the beginning of the week and then be the aide in 1st the rest of the week.  WOW the I filled in again for the aide in 1st a couple more times.  But the best job was being Monkey's teacher for a day!

Oh it was so fun!  The kids would call me Mommy at school when I was working and their teachers would correct them when we walk through the gate I'm no longer Mommy I'm Mrs.******.  The kids thought this was so funny.

When the day came for me to be Monkey's teacher I told him I'm Mrs.****** today okay sweetie.  He agreed and we went to work.  Monkey did an awesome job too.  He once called me Ms. Robin and I corrected him and he remembered and then corrected himself.  Then there were two times where he had to really think before calling me over oh he tried so hard and I was so proud of him.  By the end of the day he was calling me by the right name and was even telling me stories as if I really wasn't his mom but just the teacher.  I let him tell the stories and once said I know I was there remember and he just looked up at me and smiled.  It was so cute!!!

I found out later that the teachers were a bit concerned that I was going to be in his class teaching him.  They thought he might misbehave but we had none of that.  I always knew if I had to home school I could with him.
